Hi, I am Raquel Costabile. I am a professional music and movement practitioner based in Liverpool – England.
I am originally from Brazil, where I studied music and dance from an early age. In my first job in a pre-school, I was asked to deliver music sessions for the children and I developed a passion for music education, achieving a Licentiate degree in Music Education at FMU University in São Paulo. I also developed a keen interest in the approaches of Zoltán Kodály and Émile Jaques-Dalcroze. Alongside my degree studies I continued to develop my dance skills by taking part in Jazz and Contemporary Dance classes.
The focus of my practice has always been to engage the body in music learning and in Brazil I delivered music lessons in innovative ways for all ages, from nursery to university levels in the disciplines of music theory, choir and instrument – recorder, violin and piano.
In 2009 I moved to the UK and over the last years I worked across many sectors of the education department: nursery, primary and secondary schools and most recently at LIPA Sixth Form College. I continued my professional development by achieving qualifications such as a Level 3 CACHE Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and an MA in Education from Liverpool Hope University in 2017. I have also undertaken a wide range of CPD training and in 2018 I gained Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS).
Alongside my academic progress, life brought me opportunities in the fitness industry. I instruct a range of classes in Liverpool and I hold the following qualifications: Zumba Fitness, Strong Nation (HIIT), Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (ETM), Indoor Cycling and Yoga instructor certification – YTT 200 hrs.
My latest achievement (which was a goal I set during my undergraduate years) is The Dalcroze Professional Certificate, awarded in association with the Dalcroze Eurhythmics International Examination Board (DEIEB) and recognised by the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva, Switzerland. Dalcroze Eurhythmics is an approach to music where learning takes place through movement. This multifaceted approach, developed by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze over one hundred years ago, has applications beyond the realm of music education, having influenced the world of modern dance, theatre and music therapy.
I am very proud to say I am the first practitioner in Liverpool to achieve this qualification – the nearest place offering classes through this approach is RNCM in Manchester, and I am very excited to start delivering classes for adults and children in our city.
